Beginning Production: Beach Day Filming

September 23rd was the day I began the real production process with my group. The initial step of the production process was filming, which is what we did on this day.  Conflicts arose as the day we filmed was a Monday, meaning that my partner and I had school prior to filming. In turn, the weather was not at its peak sunny and bright state. The factor of bright weather was a major consideration during planning as it contributes so greatly to the commercial's aesthetic. Even a slightly darker atmosphere will result in more work for us during the editing process, where we will attempt to brighten the scene. However, we powered through this. The first scene’s location was Jack’s house. This location is supposed to convey a gloomier and more mundane state than the beach scenes. The second location was the beach. This location, as stated before, is meant to be brighter and livelier. In turn, to make the situation more manageable, I suggested filming in reverse order to take the most advantage of the sunlight. I also suggested to bring along an additional individual to film the shots that included Jack and I in the same frame. I brought the product, my costume, and my makeup. Firstly, I had to change into my beach outfit. We filmed the transition shot first. I suggested filming various shots of the transition, with different transition types. I suggested this so that we could choose the most suitable transition as it will be hard to determine which is best now because we were filming in reverse order. I also suggested filming various additional other shots of Jack and I at the beach. I suggested this in case the scenes we planned were not enough to fit the requested commercial length. I took the product and filmed various shots of it at the beach. I included high angles, low angles, close ups, and medium shots. Some of these shots included shots of the waves washing over the product, shots of the product in the sand, and shots of the product in the beach shower. I made sure to capture different angles, lightings, and sceneries to ensure variety. The next, and final scene, was filmed in Jacks house. I set up the scene with the props necessary, a chip bowl, pillows, and the product. Then our mutual friend began filming, these scenes were filmed relatively quickly. However, the entire filming process, including the commutes, lasted around three hours.
