Production: Endless Editing

Today Jack and I made major strides in the editing process. We begin by watching back the clips and collaborating to pick the best ones.  With an added our favorite clips into CapCut to further edit, cut and add sound to later. cutting all of our clips to the desired size. Today I also brought my camera and a cable. I used the cable to transfer the videos from my camera to Jack’s phone. Then we cut these images to the desired size. However, we knew the exact sizes would change when we add in the music as we would need to sync the clips up to the pacing of the music.

Before we added music and ambient sound we had to add in the lines. The entire first scene, filmed at the mall, had copyright music in the background. I decided to go around this by using AirPods with voice isolation to record my lines in voice memo. I muted the background sounds with people talking or copyrighted music in it. I also lowered of the volume of the sounds in the videos where we wanted to add music or another sound. I embedded the voice memo recording of my lines. Upon doing this, I realized how uncanny it was just to have the lines and no background sounds.

To fix this issue Jack and I researched greatly to try and find chattering background sounds. We also tried to find non copyrighted thriller music. We looked for leaf crunching, rustling and other stalker like sounds. Lastly we looked for basic sounds like walking and door slamming which we would need in our film. Those two sounds in particular, walking and door slamming, were very difficult to find a good audio of. I decided to just go home and record these two sounds myself. I propped up my phone, put on the same shoes as used in the film, and record myself walking exaggeratedly. I then did a quick recording of me slamming my car door. After finding all of these sounds i collaborated with Jack to choose the best ones. We put all our favorite sound excerpts into a folder to insert later.
