Production: Prop Preparation
Today, my group mate, Jack, and I went out to purchase and prepare all of the items needed for our final task. We had no school, so I suggested we utilize this time wisely. Jack had just recently gotten his license so he was able to drive us to the necessary locations. First, we purchased blank paper from Staples as neither of us could find any at home. We were going to use this paper for the letters seen in two scenes of our project.
I wanted to increase the thrilling atmosphere by making these letters appear more jarring. I suggested that we create our own vintage letters. To do this, I first printed out slightly beige paper. I then wrote the phrase "I know what you did last night" on two of the papers. I also wrote "I know" multiple times on a few of the papers to possibly use in the last scene. Next, I ripped off the sides of the paper and slightly burn it with a lighter. We did this with parental supervision and assistance as a precaution. I then made some instant coffee. After it cooled, I carefully painted a thin layer of this coffee on my papers. i then allowed them to dry for a couple hours. Lastly I slightly crumbled up the paper to make the paper look older and more mysterious. Overall this allows our antagonist to have a more thrilling impact on the characters and the audience. However, I had to redo many of these letters as I painted too much coffee on them. This caused them to dry to frail and end up breaking. All in all, this was a tedious process, however, there were very rewarding products.
